You want to buy a phone. You want to buy a camera. You want to buy a computer.

The variety of choices you can make is endless. Literally. Everybody is copying, imitating , competing with one another. Money-money-money! Consume-consume-consume!! Buy-buy-buy!!!! Think of the iPhone. Rumors of iPhone 5 just showed up. Maybe this version will be the mature phone that it should have been right from the beginning. All you people payed a lot of money for, well marketed alpha & beta versions of those devices and the funny thing is that you aren’t even upset, or feel used or anything. On the contrary you’re all happy and thankful that you could buy the damn thing. Deception / prestidigitation at the highest level. thumbs up Steve ;)

Because of competition and this profit driven society, companies don’t have time / motivation to test and produce (fewer but) better built, better working, sturdier, quality products. This applies to any and all industries.

I’m not saying competition is bad. I’m just saying that if you let’s say want to buy a phone… a good phone… you can’t. Cuz there ain’t any on the market today. (If you think about it wimin’ are much like phones nowadays. Big variety but only a few of them are good. Compromise is the keyword I guess even in the case of the good ones :))

You really can’t show me one damn phone that is all-round GOOD. You have hundreds of devices, running different hardware / software, but none of them are all-round-good. Apple products are overpriced, communist devices that Steve let’s you rent for good money. Android as an OS might compete but is still in diapers. Samsung phones suck donkey ass. I’ve recently held the Samsung Galaxy S or whatever the fuck it’s called and it feels like a cheap plastic toy. Nokia sank itself long time ago. Weak hardware, outdated software, overpriced. If I had to characterize companies with only one sentence I’d say:

Apple – one day (communist) battery life.

Android – beta testing.

Nokia – I feel cheated and used.

I have a small, compact phone (Motorola wx395) at work and I’m loving it more and more with every passing day. It’s a stupid, dull phone… but you can make calls with it! It’s small, compact, sturdy. Nothing get’s in the way. Don’t have to fear dropping it. Decent battery life. It’s a mobile phone that you can make calls with. Simple, no GPS, no WIFI. I like things that can do ONE thing but one thing well. Quite rare nowadays unfortunately…

You can still buy quality shit, if you can afford it. Back in the day people lived with a different mindset. Built things to last. The only thing that drives our society today is PROFIT. Go forth and maximize profits! That’s it. People are robots. “Dead peasants“.

What motivated me to write this entry is this trend / feeling that the camera you own right now is not good enough. You NEEEEEED to have the latest shit in order to sleep well at night. If you have a point and shoot you dream of a DSLR. If you have an entry level DSLR you dream of a 5D Mk2. When you have the 5D Mk2 you want luxury lens. When you have all that, you want something compact, light that isn’t a bitch to carry and that doesn’t attract as much attention… you want a Leica M9. But that toy right there… ahh, you can’t afford it (thus, you want it even more). You think of the M6 (film), but instantly drop the idea because you can’t keep up with life if you shoot film… so you go for the latest shit, the x100… and so on.

The camera you own is not good enough. The phone you own right now is not good enough. The computer you own is not good enough. We must have the latest shit!! In order to have the latest shit, we must make lot’s of money. In order to make lot’s of money we have to work a lot. We raise our children with these things in mind. In order to be happy we must spend, buy, consume. It’s hammered, consciously and unconsciously into our heads even when we’re asleep.

Eat fast food, work fast and efficient, follow without asking questions, don’t think for yourself, spend, spend, spend… and at the end of the day when you look in the mirror, you find an insignificant replaceable cog looking back at you, that depresses you even further.

Values = shit. Nada. Your worth is set by how profitable you are. Oh how I wish all the VIP-s in charge on top of this pyramid, chupe mantequilla de mi culo. Wee need to keep up… don’t we? … sometimes I envy monks living isolated on some freaking mountain. I’d move if they had wireless internet :) honestly.

Anyho’ I’ve been wondering about the raw production cost of a Leica M series camera today. The M9 for example.

I’d be curious how much the raw materials, needed to build the camera cost… + the labour. The price of an M9 body is 6995 dallaz’. Add a nice 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux lensfor 10495 dallaz’ and you have a total of 17500 $. For a camera & a lens…

…speechless

…and if you think about it at the end of the day it’s not about the camera it’s about the “content” you make with it. Or at least it should be anyho’. The story the photo you make / take, tell…

A well equipped studio / business if you aX’ me. Now compare that to the cost of the above mentioned Leica camera body + lens at a price of 17500 $

Funny isn’t it? :)

What would you do?

I understand that it’s hand made, by employees with 20+ years of experience whom are appreciated. There aren’t many companies like that no more… :( but COME ON!! Give me a break!! 17500 $ for a camera. :poop:

Let me show you 4 images.

(courtesy of Chris Weeks check him out blog ;) gotta’ love the guy)

First one, Leica M9, second, Canon 5D Mk2, third Canon 400D, fourth, Canon A410 point and shoot (no post processing), fifth, Nokia E50  Does it really matter? The best camera is the one you have with you. It really is true. I’m not saying certain tools don’t make your life easier but 17000 $ … I know, I know. Despite all my bitching I’d like to own one. I just can’t afford it. Pisses me off :) The M9 is small, nonintrusive, well built and it shoots digital :) In my opinion the Fuji x100 is just another well marketed alpha product… Market is full of alpha and beta products. Crap. BTW, lately I realized that sono innamorato con beautiful negative space in photos… anyho’… more shitty alpha products = more choices = more images = more crap.

I’m constantly struggling to pull my head out of my butt and remind myself (following him helps (get well asap!)) about things that are truly important in life because, peeps… We are missing out. One day you’ll wake up and realize life’s precious moments came and went (prematurely – pun intended) and you were just chasing ghosts… and that… you didn’t score (enough) :D

Just like Beavis here… :)

Hope yer’all well. Have a nice weekend peeps :sun:

fuck yeah, it’s friday

rebecca black ain’t got shit on these peeps
